Christian Standard BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
Why boast about evil, you hero! God's faithful love is constant.1For the choir director. A Maskil of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul and said to him, "David has come to the house of Ahimelech." Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The lovingkindness of God endures all day long.
Like a sharpened razor, your tongue devises destruction, working treachery.2Your tongue devises destruction, Like a sharp razor, O worker of deceit.
You love evil instead of good, lying instead of speaking truthfully. Selah3You love evil more than good, Falsehood more than speaking what is right. Selah.
You love any words that destroy, you treacherous tongue!4You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue.
This is why God will bring you down forever. He will take you, ripping you out of your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah5But God will break you down forever; He will snatch you up and tear you away from your tent, And uproot you from the land of the living. Selah.
The righteous will see and fear, and they will derisively say about that hero,6The righteous will see and fear, And will laugh at him, saying,
"Here is the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, taking refuge in his destructive behavior."7"Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire."
But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God; I trust in God's faithful love forever and ever.8But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever.
I will praise you forever for what you have done. In the presence of your faithful people, I will put my hope in your name, for it is good.9I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it, And I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.
