When he came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him.1When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him.
Right away a man with leprosy came up and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean."2A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean."
Reaching out his hand, Jesus touched him, saying, "I am willing; be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.3Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.
Then Jesus told him, "See that you don't tell anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."4Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."
When he entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, pleading with him,5When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.
"Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible agony."6"Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly."
He said to him, "Am I to come and heal him?"7Jesus said to him, "Shall I come and heal him?"
"Lord," the centurion replied, "I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.8The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command. I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this!' and he does it."9For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."
Hearing this, Jesus was amazed and said to those following him, "Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with so great a faith.10When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.
I tell you that many will come from east and west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.11I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."12But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Then Jesus told the centurion, "Go. As you have believed, let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that very moment.13Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would." And his servant was healed at that moment.
Jesus went into Peter's house and saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.14When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.
So he touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she got up and began to serve him.15He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
When evening came, they brought to him many who were demon-possessed. He drove out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick,16When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.
so that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: He himself took our weaknesses and carried our diseases.17This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases."
When Jesus saw a large crowd around him, he gave the order to go to the other side of the sea.18When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.
A scribe approached him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."19Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus told him, "Foxes have dens, and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."20Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
"Lord," another of his disciples said, "first let me go bury my father."21Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."22But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."
As he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.
Suddenly, a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves--but Jesus kept sleeping.24Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.
So the disciples came and woke him up, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to die!"25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"
He said to them, "Why are you afraid, you of little faith?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.26He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey him!"27The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"
When he had come to the other side, to the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met him as they came out of the tombs. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.28When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.
Suddenly they shouted, "What do you have to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"29"What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?"
A long way off from them, a large herd of pigs was feeding.30Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding.
"If you drive us out," the demons begged him, "send us into the herd of pigs."31The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs."
"Go!" he told them. So when they had come out, they entered the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the water.32He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.
Then the men who tended them fled. They went into the city and reported everything, especially what had happened to those who were demon-possessed.33Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.
At that, the whole town went out to meet Jesus. When they saw him, they begged him to leave their region.34Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
