Psalm 56
CSB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Christian Standard BibleNew Living Translation
Be gracious to me, God, for a man is trampling me; he fights and oppresses me all day long.1O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long.
My adversaries trample me all day, for many arrogantly fight against me.2I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me.
When I am afraid, I will trust in you.3But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?4I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?
They twist my words all day long; all their thoughts against me are evil.5They are always twisting what I say; they spend their days plotting to harm me.
They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps while they wait to take my life.6They come together to spy on me— watching my every step, eager to kill me.
Will they escape in spite of such sin? God, bring down the nations in wrath.7Don’t let them get away with their wickedness; in your anger, O God, bring them down.
You yourself have recorded my wanderings. Put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?8You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
Then my enemies will retreat on the day when I call. This I know: God is for me.9My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side!
In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise,10I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the LORD for what he has promised.
in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mere humans do to me?11I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?
I am obligated by vows to you, God; I will make my thank offerings to you.12I will fulfill my vows to you, O God, and will offer a sacrifice of thanks for your help.
For you rescued me from death, even my feet from stumbling, to walk before God in the light of life.13For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.
