Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob!1For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob.
Raise a song; sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp.2Lift up a song, strike the tambourine, play the sweet-sounding harp and lyre.
Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our feast day.3Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and at the full moon on the day of our Feast.
For it is a statute for Israel, a rule of the God of Jacob.4For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt. I hear a language I had not known:5He ordained it as a testimony for Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt, where I heard an unfamiliar language:
“I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket.6“I relieved his shoulder of the burden; his hands were freed from the basket.
In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah7You called out in distress, and I rescued you; I answered you from the cloud of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me!8Hear, O My people, and I will warn you: O Israel, if only you would listen to Me!
There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god.9There must be no strange god among you, nor shall you bow to a foreign god.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.10I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth, and I will fill it.
“But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me.11But My people would not listen to Me, and Israel would not obey Me.
So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels.12So I gave them up to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.
Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!13If only My people would listen to Me, if Israel would follow My ways,
I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes.14how soon I would subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes!
Those who hate the LORD would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever.15Those who hate the LORD would feign obedience, and their doom would last forever.
But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”16But I would feed you the finest wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
