Psalm 2
English Standard VersionHolman Christian Standard Bible
Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?1Why do the nations rebel and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,2The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers conspire together against the LORD and His Anointed One:"
“Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”3Let us tear off their chains and free ourselves from their restraints."
He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.4The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord ridicules them.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,5Then He speaks to them in His anger and terrifies them in His wrath:"
“As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”6I have consecrated My King on Zion, My holy mountain."
I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.7I will declare the LORD's decree: He said to Me, "You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.8Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”9You will break them with a rod of iron; You will shatter them like pottery."
Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.10So now, kings, be wise; receive instruction, you judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.11Serve the LORD with reverential awe and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.12Pay homage to the Son or He will be angry and you will perish in your rebellion, for His anger may ignite at any moment. All those who take refuge in Him are happy.
