| 1Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. | 1Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge. |
| 2I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” | 2I said to the LORD, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” |
| 3As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. | 3The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! |
| 4The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips. | 4Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood or even speak the names of their gods. |
| 5The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. | 5LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. |
| 6The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. | 6The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! |
| 7I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. | 7I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. |
| 8I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. | 8I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. |
| 9Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. | 9No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety. |
| 10For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. | 10For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave. |
| 11You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. | 11You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. |
