Psalm 17
ESV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit!1O LORD, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from honest lips.
From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right!2Declare me innocent, for you see those who do right.
You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.3You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night. You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong. I am determined not to sin in what I say.
With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent.4I have followed your commands, which keep me from following cruel and evil people.
My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped.5My steps have stayed on your path; I have not wavered from following you.
I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words.6I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray.
Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.7Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies.
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings,8Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me.9Protect me from wicked people who attack me, from murderous enemies who surround me.
They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly.10They are without pity. Listen to their boasting!
They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground.11They track me down and surround me, watching for the chance to throw me to the ground.
He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush.12They are like hungry lions, eager to tear me apart— like young lions hiding in ambush.
Arise, O LORD! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword,13Arise, O LORD! Stand against them, and bring them to their knees! Rescue me from the wicked with your sword!
from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants.14By the power of your hand, O LORD, destroy those who look to this world for their reward. But satisfy the hunger of your treasured ones. May their children have plenty, leaving an inheritance for their descendants.
As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.15Because I am righteous, I will see you. When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied.
