Psalm 7
English Standard VersionNew Living Translation
O LORD my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me,1I come to you for protection, O LORD my God. Save me from my persecutors—rescue me!
lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver.2If you don’t, they will maul me like a lion, tearing me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands,3O LORD my God, if I have done wrong or am guilty of injustice,
if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause,4if I have betrayed a friend or plundered my enemy without cause,
let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah5then let my enemies capture me. Let them trample me into the ground and drag my honor in the dust. Interlude
Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment.6Arise, O LORD, in anger! Stand up against the fury of my enemies! Wake up, my God, and bring justice!
Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you; over it return on high.7Gather the nations before you. Rule over them from on high.
The LORD judges the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me.8The LORD judges the nations. Declare me righteous, O LORD, for I am innocent, O Most High!
Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God!9End the evil of those who are wicked, and defend the righteous. For you look deep within the mind and heart, O righteous God.
My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.10God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right.
God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.11God is an honest judge. He is angry with the wicked every day.
If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow;12If a person does not repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow.
he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts.13He will prepare his deadly weapons and shoot his flaming arrows.
Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies.14The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies.
He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made.15They dig a deep pit to trap others, then fall into it themselves.
His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.16The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads.
I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High.17I will thank the LORD because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
