| 1O LORD my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me, | 1I come to you for protection, O LORD my God. Save me from my persecutors—rescue me! |
| 2lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver. | 2If you don’t, they will maul me like a lion, tearing me to pieces with no one to rescue me. |
| 3O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, | 3O LORD my God, if I have done wrong or am guilty of injustice, |
| 4if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, | 4if I have betrayed a friend or plundered my enemy without cause, |

| 6Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment. | 6Arise, O LORD, in anger! Stand up against the fury of my enemies! Wake up, my God, and bring justice! |
| 7Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you; over it return on high. | 7Gather the nations before you. Rule over them from on high. |

| 9Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God! | 9End the evil of those who are wicked, and defend the righteous. For you look deep within the mind and heart, O righteous God. |
| 10My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. | 10God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right. |
| 11God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. | 11God is an honest judge. He is angry with the wicked every day. |
| 12If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; | 12If a person does not repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. |
| 13he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. | 13He will prepare his deadly weapons and shoot his flaming arrows. |
| 14Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. | 14The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies. |
| 15He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. | 15They dig a deep pit to trap others, then fall into it themselves. |
| 16His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends. | 16The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads. |
| 17I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High. | 17I will thank the LORD because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. |
