| 1In the third month, on the same day of the month that the Israelites had left the land of Egypt, they entered the Wilderness of Sinai. | 1On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. |
| 2After they departed from Rephidim, they entered the Wilderness of Sinai and camped in the wilderness, and Israel camped there in front of the mountain. | 2They set out from Rephidim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness. | 3Moses went up the mountain to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain: "This is what you must say to the house of Jacob, and explain to the Israelites: | 3while Moses went up to God. The LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: |
| 4You have seen what I did to the Egyptians and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to Me. | 4‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. |
| 5Now if you will listen to Me and carefully keep My covenant, you will be My own possession out of all the peoples, although all the earth is Mine, | 5Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; |
| 6and you will be My kingdom of priests and My holy nation.' These are the words that you are to say to the Israelites." | 6and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.” |
| 7After Moses came back, he summoned the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him. | 7So Moses came and called the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him. |

| 9The LORD said to Moses, "I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear when I speak with you and will always believe you." | 13No hand may touch him; instead he will be stoned or shot with arrows. No animal or man will live. | 23But Moses responded to the LORD, "The people cannot come up Mount Sinai, since You warned us: Put a boundary around the mountain and consider it holy." | 23And Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for you yourself warned us, saying, ‘Set limits around the mountain and consecrate it.’” |
| 24And the LORD replied to him, "Go down and come back with Aaron. But the priests and the people must not break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break out in anger against them." | 24And the LORD said to him, “Go down, and come up bringing Aaron with you. But do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the LORD, lest he break out against them.” |
