Psalm 81
HCSB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleInternational Standard Version
For the choir director: on the Gittith. Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; shout in triumph to the God of Jacob. 1Sing joyfully to God, our strength. Raise a shout to the God of Jacob.
Lift up a song--play the tambourine, the melodious lyre, and the harp. 2Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant-sounding lyre along with the harp.
Blow the horn on the day of our feasts during the new moon and during the full moon. 3Blow the ram's horn when there is a New Moon, when there is a full moon, on our festival day,
For this is a statute for Israel, a judgment of the God of Jacob. 4because it is a statute in Israel, an ordinance by the God of Jacob,
He set it up as an ordinance for Joseph when He went throughout the land of Egypt. I heard an unfamiliar language:" 5a decree that he prescribed for Joseph when he went throughout the land of Egypt, speaking a language I did not recognize.
I relieved his shoulder from the burden; his hands were freed from carrying the basket. 6I removed the burden from your shoulder; your hands were freed of the burdensome basket.
You called out in distress, and I rescued you; I answered you from the thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah 7In a time of need you called out and I delivered you; I answered you from the dark thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Interlude
Listen, My people, and I will admonish you. Israel, if you would only listen to Me! 8Listen, My people and I will warn you. Israel, if only you would obey me!
There must not be a strange god among you; you must not bow down to a foreign god. 9You must neither have a foreign god over you or worship a strange god.
I am Yahweh your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it." 10I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, open your mouth that I may fill it.
But My people did not listen to Me; Israel did not obey Me. 11Yet my people didn't obey my voice; Israel didn't submit to me.
So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own plans. 12So I allowed them to continue in their stubbornness, living by their own advice.
If only My people would listen to Me and Israel would follow My ways, 13If only my people would obey me, if only Israel would walk in my ways!
I would quickly subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes." 14Then I would quickly subdue their enemies. I would turn against their foes.
Those who hate the LORD would pretend submission to Him; their doom would last forever. 15Those who hate the LORD will cringe before him; their punishment will be permanent.
But He would feed Israel with the best wheat." I would satisfy you with honey from the rock." 16But I will feed Israel with the finest wheat, satisfying you with honey from the rock.
