A Davidic psalm for remembrance. LORD, do not punish me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath. 1A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
For Your arrows have sunk into me, and Your hand has pressed down on me. 2For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.
There is no health in my body because of Your indignation; there is no strength in my bones because of my sin. 3There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
For my sins have flooded over my head; they are a burden too heavy for me to bear. 4For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness. 5My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
I am bent over and brought low; all day long I go around in mourning. 6I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
For my loins are full of burning pain, and there is no health in my body. 7For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.
I am faint and severely crushed; I groan because of the anguish of my heart. 8I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
Lord, my every desire is known to You; my sighing is not hidden from You. 9Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.
My heart races, my strength leaves me, and even the light of my eyes has faded. 10My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.
My loved ones and friends stand back from my affliction, and my relatives stand at a distance. 11My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.
Those who seek my life set traps, and those who want to harm me threaten to destroy me; they plot treachery all day long. 12They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
I am like a deaf person; I do not hear. I am like a speechless person who does not open his mouth. 13But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
I am like a man who does not hear and has no arguments in his mouth. 14Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
I put my hope in You, LORD; You will answer, Lord my God. 15For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
For I said, "Don't let them rejoice over me-- those who are arrogant toward me when I stumble." 16For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.
For I am about to fall, and my pain is constantly with me. 17For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.
So I confess my guilt; I am anxious because of my sin. 18For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
But my enemies are vigorous and powerful; many hate me for no reason. 19But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
Those who repay evil for good attack me for pursuing good. 20They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.
LORD, do not abandon me; my God, do not be far from me. 21Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.
Hurry to help me, Lord, my Savior. 22Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.
