Holman Christian Standard BibleNET Bible
Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars. 1Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out its seven pillars.
She has prepared her meat; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table. 2She has prepared her meat, she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table.
She has sent out her female servants; she calls out from the highest points of the city:" 3She has sent out her female servants; she calls out on the highest places of the city.
Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!" To the one who lacks sense, she says," 4"Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding.
Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine I have mixed. 5"Come, eat some of my food, and drink some of the wine I have mixed.
Leave inexperience behind, and you will live; pursue the way of understanding. 6Abandon your foolish ways so that you may live, and proceed in the way of understanding."
The one who corrects a mocker will bring dishonor on himself; the one who rebukes a wicked man will get hurt. 7Whoever corrects a mocker is asking for insult; whoever reproves a wicked person receives abuse.
Don't rebuke a mocker, or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. 8Do not reprove a mocker or he will hate you; reprove a wise person and he will love you.
Instruct a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will learn more." 9Give instruction to a wise person, and he will become wiser still; teach a righteous person and he will add to his learning.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. 10The beginning of wisdom is to fear the LORD, and acknowledging the Holy One is understanding.
For by Wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. 11For because of me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise for your own benefit; if you mock, you alone will bear the consequences." 12If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage, but if you are a mocker, you alone must bear it.
The woman Folly is rowdy; she is gullible and knows nothing. 13The woman called Folly is brash, she is naive and does not know anything.
She sits by the doorway of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, 14So she sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city,
calling to those who pass by, who go straight ahead on their paths:" 15calling out to those who are passing by her in the way, who go straight on their way.
Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!" To the one who lacks sense, she says," 16"Whoever is simple, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding.
Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten secretly is tasty!" 17"Stolen waters are sweet, and food obtained in secret is pleasant!"
But he doesn't know that the departed spirits are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol. 18But they do not realize that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave.
