For the choir director. Of the servant of the LORD, David, who spoke the words of this song to the LORD on the day the LORD rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love You, LORD, my strength. 1For the music director; by the LORD's servant David, who sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD rescued him from the power of all his enemies, including Saul. He said: "I love you, LORD, my source of strength!
The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my mountain where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 2The LORD is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer. My God is my rocky summit where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.
I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies. 3I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I was delivered from my enemies.
The ropes of death were wrapped around me; the torrents of destruction terrified me. 4The waves of death engulfed me, the currents of chaos overwhelmed me.
The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. 5The ropes of Sheol tightened around me, the snares of death trapped me.
I called to the LORD in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears. 6In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried out to my God. From his heavenly temple he heard my voice; he listened to my cry for help.
Then the earth shook and quaked; the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook because He burned with anger. 7The earth heaved and shook; the roots of the mountains trembled; they heaved because he was angry.
Smoke rose from His nostrils, and consuming fire came from His mouth; coals were set ablaze by it. 8Smoke ascended from his nose; fire devoured as it came from his mouth; he hurled down fiery coals.
He parted the heavens and came down, a dark cloud beneath His feet. 9He made the sky sink as he descended; a thick cloud was under his feet.
He rode on a cherub and flew, soaring on the wings of the wind. 10He mounted a winged angel and flew; he glided on the wings of the wind.
He made darkness His hiding place, dark storm clouds His canopy around Him. 11He shrouded himself in darkness, in thick rain clouds.
From the radiance of His presence, His clouds swept onward with hail and blazing coals. 12From the brightness in front of him came hail and fiery coals.
The LORD thundered from heaven; the Most High projected His voice. 13The LORD thundered in the sky; the sovereign One shouted.
He shot His arrows and scattered them; He hurled lightning bolts and routed them. 14He shot his arrows and scattered them, many lightning bolts and routed them.
The depths of the sea became visible, the foundations of the world were exposed, at Your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. 15The depths of the sea were exposed; the inner regions of the world were uncovered by your battle cry, LORD, by the powerful breath from your nose.
He reached down from heaven and took hold of me; He pulled me out of deep waters. 16He reached down from above and took hold of me; he pulled me from the surging water.
He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. 17He rescued me from my strong enemy, from those who hate me, for they were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my distress, but the LORD was my support. 18They confronted me in my day of calamity, but the LORD helped me.
He brought me out to a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me. 19He brought me out into a wide open place; he delivered me because he was pleased with me.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; He repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands. 20The LORD repaid me for my godly deeds; he rewarded my blameless behavior.
For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not turned from my God to wickedness. 21For I have obeyed the LORD's commands; I have not rebelled against my God.
Indeed, I have kept all His ordinances in mind and have not disregarded His statutes. 22For I am aware of all his regulations, and I do not reject his rules.
I was blameless toward Him and kept myself from sinning. 23I was innocent before him, and kept myself from sinning.
So the LORD repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight. 24The LORD rewarded me for my godly deeds; he took notice of my blameless behavior.
With the faithful You prove Yourself faithful; with the blameless man You prove Yourself blameless; 25You prove to be loyal to one who is faithful; you prove to be trustworthy to one who is innocent.
with the pure You prove Yourself pure, but with the crooked You prove Yourself shrewd. 26You prove to be reliable to one who is blameless, but you prove to be deceptive to one who is perverse.
For You rescue an afflicted people, but You humble those with haughty eyes. 27For you deliver oppressed people, but you bring down those who have a proud look.
LORD, You light my lamp; my God illuminates my darkness. 28Indeed, you are my lamp, LORD. My God illuminates the darkness around me.
With You I can attack a barrier, and with my God I can leap over a wall. 29Indeed, with your help I can charge against an army; by my God's power I can jump over a wall.
God--His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. 30The one true God acts in a faithful manner; the LORD's promise is reliable; he is a shield to all who take shelter in him.
For who is God besides Yahweh? And who is a rock? Only our God. 31Indeed, who is God besides the LORD? Who is a protector besides our God?
God--He clothes me with strength and makes my way perfect. 32The one true God gives me strength; he removes the obstacles in my way.
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and sets me securely on the heights. 33He gives me the agility of a deer; he enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain.
He trains my hands for war; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 34He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend even the strongest bow.
You have given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand upholds me, and Your humility exalts me. 35You give me your protective shield; your right hand supports me; your willingness to help enables me to prevail.
You widen a place beneath me for my steps, and my ankles do not give way. 36You widen my path; my feet do not slip.
I pursue my enemies and overtake them; I do not turn back until they are wiped out. 37I chase my enemies and catch them; I do not turn back until I wipe them out.
I crush them, and they cannot get up; they fall beneath my feet. 38I beat them to death; they fall at my feet.
You have clothed me with strength for battle; You subdue my adversaries beneath me. 39You give me strength for battle; you make my foes kneel before me.
You have made my enemies retreat before me; I annihilate those who hate me. 40You make my enemies retreat; I destroy those who hate me.
They cry for help, but there is no one to save them-- they cry to the LORD, but He does not answer them. 41They cry out, but there is no one to help them; they cry out to the LORD, but he does not answer them.
I pulverize them like dust before the wind; I trample them like mud in the streets. 42I grind them as fine windblown dust; I beat them underfoot like clay in the streets.
You have freed me from the feuds among the people; You have appointed me the head of nations; a people I had not known serve me. 43You rescue me from a hostile army; you make me a leader of nations; people over whom I had no authority are now my subjects.
Foreigners submit to me grudgingly; as soon as they hear, they obey me. 44When they hear of my exploits, they submit to me. Foreigners are powerless before me;
Foreigners lose heart and come trembling from their fortifications. 45foreigners lose their courage; they shake with fear as they leave their strongholds.
The LORD lives--may my rock be praised! The God of my salvation is exalted. 46The LORD is alive! My protector is praiseworthy! The God who delivers me is exalted as king!
God--He gives me vengeance and subdues peoples under me. 47The one true God completely vindicates me; he makes nations submit to me.
He frees me from my enemies. You exalt me above my adversaries; You rescue me from violent men. 48He delivers me from my enemies; you snatch me away from those who attack me; you rescue me from violent men.
Therefore I will praise You, Yahweh, among the nations; I will sing about Your name. 49So I will give you thanks before the nations, O LORD! I will sing praises to you!
He gives great victories to His king; He shows loyalty to His anointed, to David and his descendants forever. 50He gives his chosen king magnificent victories; he is faithful to his chosen ruler, to David and his descendants forever."
