| 1Now, lament for the princes of Israel | 1"Take up a lament concerning the princes of Israel |
| 2and say: What was your mother? A lioness! She lay down among the lions; she reared her cubs among the young lions. | 2and say: "'What a lioness was your mother among the lions! She lay down among them and reared her cubs. |

| 12But it was uprooted in fury, thrown to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit. | 14Fire has gone out from its main branch and has devoured its fruit, so that it no longer has a strong branch, a scepter for ruling.
