Proverbs 11
HCSB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew International Version
Dishonest scales are detestable to the LORD, but an accurate weight is His delight. 1The LORD detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.
When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom. 2When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the treacherous destroys them. 3The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
Wealth is not profitable on a day of wrath, but righteousness rescues from death. 4Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
The righteousness of the blameless clears his path, but the wicked person will fall because of his wickedness. 5The righteousness of the blameless makes their paths straight, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright rescues them, but the treacherous are trapped by their own desires. 6The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.
When the wicked man dies, his expectation comes to nothing, and hope placed in wealth vanishes. 7Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing.
The righteous one is rescued from trouble; in his place, the wicked one goes in. 8The righteous person is rescued from trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead.
With his mouth the ungodly destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous are rescued. 9With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
When the righteous thrive, a city rejoices, and when the wicked die, there is joyful shouting. 10When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
A city is built up by the blessing of the upright, but it is torn down by the mouth of the wicked. 11Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.
Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a man with understanding keeps silent. 12Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.
A gossip goes around revealing a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence. 13A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
Without guidance, people fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance. 14For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.
If someone puts up security for a stranger, he will suffer for it, but the one who hates such agreements is protected. 15Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to shake hands in pledge is safe.
A gracious woman gains honor, but violent men gain only riches. 16A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth.
A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings disaster on himself. 17Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.
The wicked man earns an empty wage, but the one who sows righteousness, a true reward. 18A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.
Genuine righteousness leads to life, but pursuing evil leads to death. 19Truly the righteous attain life, but whoever pursues evil finds death.
Those with twisted minds are detestable to the LORD, but those with blameless conduct are His delight. 20The LORD detests those whose hearts are perverse, but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.
Be assured that the wicked will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will escape. 21Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.
A beautiful woman who rejects good sense is like a gold ring in a pig's snout. 22Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.
The desire of the righteous turns out well, but the hope of the wicked leads to wrath. 23The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.
One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor. 24One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water. 25A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
People will curse anyone who hoards grain, but a blessing will come to the one who sells it. 26People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God's blessing on the one who is willing to sell.
The one who searches for what is good finds favor, but if someone looks for trouble, it will come to him. 27Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.
Anyone trusting in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage. 28Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
The one who brings ruin on his household will inherit the wind, and a fool will be a slave to someone whose heart is wise. 29Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, but violence takes lives. 30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.
If the righteous will be repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and sinful. 31If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!
