Solomon's proverbs: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son, heartache to his mother. 1The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
Ill-gotten gains do not profit anyone, but righteousness rescues from death. 2Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death.
The LORD will not let the righteous go hungry, but He denies the wicked what they crave. 3The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.
Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring riches. 4Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.
The son who gathers during summer is prudent; the son who sleeps during harvest is disgraceful. 5He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. 6Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.
The remembrance of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. 7The name of the righteous is used in blessings, but the name of the wicked will rot.
A wise heart accepts commands, but foolish lips will be destroyed. 8The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.
The one who lives with integrity lives securely, but whoever perverts his ways will be found out. 9Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.
A sly wink of the eye causes grief, and foolish lips will be destroyed. 10Whoever winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin.
The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. 11The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
Hatred stirs up conflicts, but love covers all offenses. 12Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.
Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of the one who lacks sense. 13Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of one who has no sense.
The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of the fool hastens destruction. 14The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.
A rich man's wealth is his fortified city; the poverty of the poor is their destruction. 15The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor.
The labor of the righteous leads to life; the activity of the wicked leads to sin. 16The wages of the righteous is life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death.
The one who follows instruction is on the path to life, but the one who rejects correction goes astray. 17Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.
The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. 18Whoever conceals hatred with lying lips and spreads slander is a fool.
When there are many words, sin is unavoidable, but the one who controls his lips is wise. 19Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues.
The tongue of the righteous is pure silver; the heart of the wicked is of little value. 20The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value.
The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense. 21The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of sense.
The LORD's blessing enriches, and struggle adds nothing to it. 22The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it.
As shameful conduct is pleasure for a fool, so wisdom is for a man of understanding. 23A fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes, but a person of understanding delights in wisdom.
What the wicked dreads will come to him, but what the righteous desire will be given to them. 24What the wicked dread will overtake them; what the righteous desire will be granted.
When the whirlwind passes, the wicked are no more, but the righteous are secure forever. 25When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.
Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so the slacker is to the one who sends him on an errand. 26As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so are sluggards to those who send them.
The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. 27The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.
The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked comes to nothing. 28The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
The way of the LORD is a stronghold for the honorable, but destruction awaits the malicious. 29The way of the LORD is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.
The righteous will never be shaken, but the wicked will not remain on the earth. 30The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land.
The mouth of the righteous produces wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out. 31From the mouth of the righteous comes the fruit of wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be silenced.
The lips of the righteous know what is appropriate, but the mouth of the wicked, only what is perverse. 32The lips of the righteous know what finds favor, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.
