Solomon's proverbs: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son, heartache to his mother. 1The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
Ill-gotten gains do not profit anyone, but righteousness rescues from death. 2Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
The LORD will not let the righteous go hungry, but He denies the wicked what they crave. 3The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring riches. 4He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
The son who gathers during summer is prudent; the son who sleeps during harvest is disgraceful. 5He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. 6Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
The remembrance of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. 7The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
A wise heart accepts commands, but foolish lips will be destroyed. 8The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
The one who lives with integrity lives securely, but whoever perverts his ways will be found out. 9He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
A sly wink of the eye causes grief, and foolish lips will be destroyed. 10He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. 11The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
Hatred stirs up conflicts, but love covers all offenses. 12Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of the one who lacks sense. 13In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of the fool hastens destruction. 14Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
A rich man's wealth is his fortified city; the poverty of the poor is their destruction. 15The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
The labor of the righteous leads to life; the activity of the wicked leads to sin. 16The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
The one who follows instruction is on the path to life, but the one who rejects correction goes astray. 17He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. 18He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
When there are many words, sin is unavoidable, but the one who controls his lips is wise. 19In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
The tongue of the righteous is pure silver; the heart of the wicked is of little value. 20The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense. 21The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
The LORD's blessing enriches, and struggle adds nothing to it. 22The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
As shameful conduct is pleasure for a fool, so wisdom is for a man of understanding. 23It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
What the wicked dreads will come to him, but what the righteous desire will be given to them. 24The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
When the whirlwind passes, the wicked are no more, but the righteous are secure forever. 25As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so the slacker is to the one who sends him on an errand. 26As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. 27The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked comes to nothing. 28The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
The way of the LORD is a stronghold for the honorable, but destruction awaits the malicious. 29The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
The righteous will never be shaken, but the wicked will not remain on the earth. 30The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
The mouth of the righteous produces wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out. 31The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
The lips of the righteous know what is appropriate, but the mouth of the wicked, only what is perverse. 32The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
