Psalm 2
ISV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionEnglish Standard Version
Why are the nations in an uproar, and their people involved in a vain plot?1Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
As the kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers conspire together against the LORD and his anointed one, they say, 2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,
"Let us tear off their shackles from us, and cast off their chains."3“Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”
He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.4He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.
In his anger he rebukes them, and in his wrath he terrifies them:5Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,
"I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain."6“As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”
Let me announce the decree of the LORD that he told me: "You are my son, today I have become your father.7I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.
Ask of me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your possession.8Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.
You will break them with an iron rod, you will shatter them like pottery."9You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
Therefore, kings, act wisely! Earthly rulers, be warned!10Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the son before he becomes angry, and you die where you stand. Indeed, his wrath can flare up quickly. How blessed are those who take refuge in him.12Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
