Job continued with his discussion and said:1Job continued his discourse, saying:
"The living God has withheld justice from me; the Almighty has made my life bitter.2As God lives, who has deprived me of justice, and the Almighty who has made me bitter,
As long as I can breathe; as long as God's breath is in my nostrils,3as long as my breath is still in me and the breath from God remains in my nostrils,
I won't speak lies nor will I utter deceit.4my lips will not speak unjustly, and my tongue will not utter deceit.
Far be it from me to admit that you're right! I intend to maintain my integrity even if it kills me!5I will never affirm that you are right. I will maintain my integrity until I die.
I'll retain my righteousness and not compromise it; my conscience won't rebuke me at any time.6I will cling to my righteousness and never let it go. My conscience will not accuse me as long as I live!
"May my enemy be like the wicked; my adversary like the unjust. 7May my enemy be like the wicked and my opponent like the unjust.
For where is the hope of the godless when he is eliminated; when God takes away his life?8For what hope does the godless man have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
Will God hear his cry when distress overtakes him?9Will God hear his cry when distress comes on him?
Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?"10Will he delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?
"I'll teach you about the power of God, that which is with the Almighty I won't conceal.11I will teach you about God's power. I will not conceal what the Almighty has planned.
Look! All of you have been watching, so why have you become so completely worthless?12All of you have seen this for yourselves, why do you keep up this empty talk?
"This is what a wicked person inherits from God, and what the ruthless will receive from the Almighty:13This is a wicked man's lot from God, the inheritance the ruthless receive from the Almighty.
If he has many children, their destiny is to die by the sword, and his descendants won't have enough food.14Even if his children increase, they are destined for the sword; his descendants will never have enough food.
Those who do survive him disease will bury, and his widow won't even weep.15Those who survive him will be buried by the plague, yet their widows will not weep for them.
"Though he hoards silver like dust, and stores away garments like clay,16Though he piles up silver like dust and heaps up a wardrobe like clay--
whatever he stores up, the righteous will wear, and the innocent will inherit that silver!17he may heap it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide up his silver.
"He has built his house like a moth's cocoon, like a temporary sunshade that a watchman makes.18The house he built is like a moth's cocoon or a booth set up by a watchman.
He will go to bed wealthy, but won't be doing that anymore! When he opens his eyes, it will be gone!19He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, it is gone.
Terror will overtake him like a flood, at night, a tornado will sweep him away.20Terrors overtake him like a flood; a storm wind sweeps him away at night.
He'll be swept up by a storm wind and carried away; he'll be whirled away from his place.21An east wind picks him up, and he is gone; it carries him away from his place.
It will toss him around without pity. He'll try to break free from its grip, 22It blasts at him without mercy, while he flees desperately from its grasp.
but it will clap its hands over him, hissing at him as it lunges toward him." 23It claps its hands at him and scorns him from its place.
