Job 27
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Job continued with his discussion and said:1Job continued speaking:
"The living God has withheld justice from me; the Almighty has made my life bitter.2“I vow by the living God, who has taken away my rights, by the Almighty who has embittered my soul—
As long as I can breathe; as long as God's breath is in my nostrils,3As long as I live, while I have breath from God,
I won't speak lies nor will I utter deceit.4my lips will speak no evil, and my tongue will speak no lies.
Far be it from me to admit that you're right! I intend to maintain my integrity even if it kills me!5I will never concede that you are right; I will defend my integrity until I die.
I'll retain my righteousness and not compromise it; my conscience won't rebuke me at any time.6I will maintain my innocence without wavering. My conscience is clear for as long as I live.
"May my enemy be like the wicked; my adversary like the unjust. 7“May my enemy be punished like the wicked, my adversary like those who do evil.
For where is the hope of the godless when he is eliminated; when God takes away his life?8For what hope do the godless have when God cuts them off and takes away their life?
Will God hear his cry when distress overtakes him?9Will God listen to their cry when trouble comes upon them?
Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?"10Can they take delight in the Almighty? Can they call to God at any time?
"I'll teach you about the power of God, that which is with the Almighty I won't conceal.11I will teach you about God’s power. I will not conceal anything concerning the Almighty.
Look! All of you have been watching, so why have you become so completely worthless?12But you have seen all this, yet you say all these useless things to me.
"This is what a wicked person inherits from God, and what the ruthless will receive from the Almighty:13“This is what the wicked will receive from God; this is their inheritance from the Almighty.
If he has many children, their destiny is to die by the sword, and his descendants won't have enough food.14They may have many children, but the children will die in war or starve to death.
Those who do survive him disease will bury, and his widow won't even weep.15Those who survive will die of a plague, and not even their widows will mourn them.
"Though he hoards silver like dust, and stores away garments like clay,16“Evil people may have piles of money and may store away mounds of clothing.
whatever he stores up, the righteous will wear, and the innocent will inherit that silver!17But the righteous will wear that clothing, and the innocent will divide that money.
"He has built his house like a moth's cocoon, like a temporary sunshade that a watchman makes.18The wicked build houses as fragile as a spider’s web, as flimsy as a shelter made of branches.
He will go to bed wealthy, but won't be doing that anymore! When he opens his eyes, it will be gone!19The wicked go to bed rich but wake to find that all their wealth is gone.
Terror will overtake him like a flood, at night, a tornado will sweep him away.20Terror overwhelms them like a flood, and they are blown away in the storms of the night.
He'll be swept up by a storm wind and carried away; he'll be whirled away from his place.21The east wind carries them away, and they are gone. It sweeps them away.
It will toss him around without pity. He'll try to break free from its grip, 22It whirls down on them without mercy. They struggle to flee from its power.
but it will clap its hands over him, hissing at him as it lunges toward him." 23But everyone jeers at them and mocks them.
