Psalm 38
ISV Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionKing James Bible
LORD! Do not rebuke me in your anger; do not correct me in your wrath,1A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
because your arrows have sunk deep into me, and your hand has come down hard on me.2For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.
My body is unhealthy due to your anger, and my bones have no rest due to my sin.3There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
My iniquities loom over my head; like a cumbersome burden, they are too heavy for me.4For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
My wounds have putrefied and festered because of my foolishness.5My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
I am bent over and walk about greatly bowed down; all day long I go around mourning.6I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
My insides are burning and my body is unhealthy.7For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.
I am weak and utterly crushed; I cry out in distress because of my heart's anguish.8I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
Lord, all my longings are before you, and my groaning is not hidden from you.9Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.
My heart pounds, my strength fails me, even the gleam in my eye is gone.10My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.
As for my friends and my neighbors, they stand aloof from my distress; even my close relatives stand at a distance.11My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.
Those who seek my life lay snares for me; those who seek to do me harm brag all day long about their wicked planning.12They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, and like the mute, who cannot open his mouth.13But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
Indeed, I have become like a man who hears nothing, and in whose mouth there is no rebuke.14Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
Because I have placed my hope in you, LORD, you will answer, Lord, my God.15For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, as they congratulate themselves when my foot slips."16For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.
Indeed, I am being set up for a fall, and I am continuously reminded of my pain.17For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.
I confess my iniquity, and my sin troubles me.18For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
But my enemies are alive and well; those who hate me for no reason are numerous. 19But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
They reward my good with evil, opposing me because I seek to do good. 20They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.
Don't forsake me, LORD. My God, do not be so distant from me.21Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.
Come quickly and help me, Lord, my deliverer.22Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.
