| 2"At the time that I choose I will judge the righteous. | 2You say, "I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity. |
| 3While the earth and all its inhabitants melt away, it is I who keep its pillars firm." Interlude | 3When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm. |
| 4I will say to the proud, "Don't brag," and to the wicked, "Don't vaunt your strength. | 4To the arrogant I say, 'Boast no more,' and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horns. |
| 5Don't use your strength to fight heaven or speak from stubborn arrogance." | 5Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak so defiantly.'" |
| 6For exaltation comes not from the east, the west, or the wilderness, | 6No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt themselves. |
| 7since God is the judge. This one he will debase or that one he will exalt. | 7It is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another. |
| 8For there is a cup in the hand of the LORD, foaming with well-mixed wine that he will pour out, leaving only the dregs, from which all the wicked of the earth will drink. | 8In the hand of the LORD is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs. |
