And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.1Asa’s son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.
And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.2He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;3Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek out the Baals,
But sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.4but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.5So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him tribute, so that he had an abundance of riches and honor.
And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.6And his heart took delight in the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Benhail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.7In the third year of his reign, Jehoshaphat sent his officials Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah,
And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.8accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah—along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.9They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.10And the dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.
Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.11Some Philistines also brought gifts and silver as tribute to Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.
And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.12Jehoshaphat grew stronger and stronger, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah
And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.13and kept vast supplies in the cities of Judah. He also had warriors in Jerusalem who were mighty men of valor.
And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.14These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000 mighty men of valor;
And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.15next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000;
And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.16and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty men of valor.
And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.17From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;
And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.18and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 armed for battle.
These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.19These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
