Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,1Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to Him, we ask you, brothers,
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.2not to be easily disconcerted or alarmed by any spirit or message or letter seeming to be from us, alleging that the Day of the Lord has already come.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;3Let no one deceive you in any way, for it will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness—the son of destruction—is revealed.
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.4He will oppose and exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will seat himself in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?5Do you not remember that I told you these things while I was still with you?
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.6And you know what is now restraining him, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now restrains it will continue until he is taken out of the way.
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of His mouth and annihilate by the majesty of His arrival.
Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,9The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the working of Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and false wonder,
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.10and with every wicked deception directed against those who are perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them.
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:11For this reason God will send them a powerful delusion so that they believe the lie,
That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.12in order that judgment may come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness.
But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:13But we should always thank God for you, brothers who are loved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning to be saved by the sanctification of the Spirit and by faith in the truth.
Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.14To this He called you through our gospel, so that you may share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.15Therefore, brothers, stand firm and cling to the traditions we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who by grace has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope,
Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.17encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good word and deed.
