King James BibleNET Bible
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,1Now regarding the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to be with him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.2not to be easily shaken from your composure or disturbed by any kind of spirit or message or letter allegedly from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;3Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not arrive until the rebellion comes and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction.
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.4He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, and as a result he takes his seat in God's temple, displaying himself as God.
Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?5Surely you recall that I used to tell you these things while I was still with you.
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.6And so you know what holds him back, so that he will be revealed in his own time.
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.7For the hidden power of lawlessness is already at work. However, the one who holds him back will do so until he is taken out of the way,
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:8and then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will destroy by the breath of his mouth and wipe out by the manifestation of his arrival.
Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,9The arrival of the lawless one will be by Satan's working with all kinds of miracles and signs and false wonders,
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.10and with every kind of evil deception directed against those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth so as to be saved.
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:11Consequently God sends on them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false.
That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.12And so all of them who have not believed the truth but have delighted in evil will be condemned.
But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:13But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.14He called you to this salvation through our gospel, so that you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.15Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope,
Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.17encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good thing you do or say.
