And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.1Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel, and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”
Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:2So Jacob told his household and all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods that are among you. Purify yourselves and change your garments.
And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.3Then let us arise and go to Bethel. I will build an altar there to God, who answered me in my day of distress. He has been with me wherever I have gone.”
And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.4So they gave Jacob all their foreign gods and all their earrings, and Jacob buried them under the oak near Shechem.
And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.5As they set out, a terror from God fell over the surrounding cities, so that they did not pursue Jacob’s sons.
So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.6So Jacob and everyone with him arrived in Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.
And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.7There Jacob built an altar, and he called that place El-bethel, because it was there that God had revealed Himself to Jacob as he fled from his brother.
But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.8Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died and was buried under the oak below Bethel. So Jacob named it Allon-bachuth.
And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.9After Jacob had returned from Paddan-aram, God appeared to him again and blessed him.
And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.10And God said to him, “Though your name is Jacob, you will no longer be called Jacob. Instead, your name will be Israel.” So God named him Israel.
And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;11And God told him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation—even a company of nations—shall come from you, and kings shall descend from you.
And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.12The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.”
And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.13Then God went up from the place where He had spoken with him.
And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.14So Jacob set up a pillar in the place where God had spoken with him—a stone marker—and he poured out a drink offering on it and anointed it with oil.
And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.15Jacob called the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.
And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.16Later, they set out from Bethel, and while they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth, and her labor was difficult.
And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.17During her severe labor, the midwife said to her, “Do not be afraid, for you are having another son.”
And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.18And with her last breath—for she was dying—she named him Ben-oni. But his father called him Benjamin.
And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.19So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).

Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:22While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard about it. Jacob had twelve sons:
The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:23The sons of Leah were Reuben the firstborn of Jacob, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.
The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:24The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.
And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:25The sons of Rachel’s maidservant Bilhah were Dan and Naphtali.
And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.26And the sons of Leah’s maidservant Zilpah were Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan-aram.
And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.27Jacob returned to his father Isaac at Mamre, near Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.
And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.28And Isaac lived 180 years.
And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.29Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of years. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
