Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness,
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;2in the hope of eternal life that God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.
But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;3In his own time he has revealed his word in the preaching with which I was entrusted by the command of God our Savior:
To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.4To Titus, my true son in our common faith. Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:5The reason I left you in Crete was to set right what was left undone and, as I directed you, to appoint elders in every town.
If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.6An elder must be blameless: the husband of one wife, with faithful children who are not accused of wildness or rebellion.
For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;7As an overseer of God's household, he must be blameless: not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not an excessive drinker, not a bully, not greedy for money,

Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.14and may not pay attention to Jewish myths and the commands of people who reject the truth.
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.15To the pure, everything is pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; in fact, both their mind and conscience are defiled.
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.16They claim to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.
