Hebrews 3
KJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
King James BibleEnglish Standard Version
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;1Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,
Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.2who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house.
For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.3For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.
For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.4(For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.)
And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;5Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later,
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.6but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.
Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice,
Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,
When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.9where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years.
Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.10Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’
So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)11As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’”
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.12Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.13But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;14For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.
While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.15As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.16For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses?
But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?17And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?18And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.19So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
