To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.1For the choir director: according to "The Lilies." A Maskil of the sons of Korah. A love song. My heart is moved by a noble theme as I recite my verses to the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.
Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.2You are the most handsome of men; grace flows from your lips. Therefore God has blessed you forever.
Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.3Mighty warrior, strap your sword at your side. In your majesty and splendor--
And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.4in your splendor ride triumphantly in the cause of truth, humility, and justice. May your right hand show your awe-inspiring acts.
Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.5Your arrows pierce the hearts of the king's enemies; the peoples fall under you.
Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.6Your throne, God, is forever and ever; the scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of justice.
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.7You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy more than your companions.
All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.8Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume all your garments; from ivory palaces harps bring you joy.
Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.9Kings' daughters are among your honored women; the queen, adorned with gold from Ophir, stands at your right hand.
Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;10Listen, daughter, pay attention and consider: forget your people and your father's house,
So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.11and the king will desire your beauty. Bow down to him, for he is your lord.
And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.12The daughter of Tyre, the wealthy people, will seek your favor with gifts.
The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.13In her chamber, the royal daughter is all glorious, her clothing embroidered with gold.
She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.14In colorful garments she is led to the king; after her, the virgins, her companions, are brought to you.
With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.15They are led in with gladness and rejoicing; they enter the king's palace.
Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.16Your sons will succeed your ancestors; you will make them princes throughout the land.
I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.17I will cause your name to be remembered for all generations; therefore the peoples will praise you forever and ever.
