Mark 13
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!1As Jesus was leaving the Temple that day, one of his disciples said, “Teacher, look at these magnificent buildings! Look at the impressive stones in the walls.”
And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.2Jesus replied, “Yes, look at these great buildings. But they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,3Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives across the valley from the Temple. Peter, James, John, and Andrew came to him privately and asked him,
Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?4“Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to be fulfilled?”
And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:5Jesus replied, “Don’t let anyone mislead you,
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.6 for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many.
And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.7 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.8 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in many parts of the world, as well as famines. But this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.
But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.9 “When these things begin to happen, watch out! You will be handed over to the local councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.
And the gospel must first be published among all nations.10 For the Good News must first be preached to all nations.
But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.11 But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.12 “A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed.
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.13 And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:14 “The day is coming when you will see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing where he should not be.” (Reader, pay attention!) “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills.
And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:15 A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack.
And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.16 A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat.
But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!17 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days.
And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.18 And pray that your flight will not be in winter.
For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.19 For there will be greater anguish in those days than at any time since God created the world. And it will never be so great again.
And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.20 In fact, unless the Lord shortens that time of calamity, not a single person will survive. But for the sake of his chosen ones he has shortened those days.
And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:21 “Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t believe it.
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.22 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.
But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.23 Watch out! I have warned you about this ahead of time!
But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,24 “At that time, after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light,
And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.26 Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory.
And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.27 And he will send out his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the world —from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.
Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:28 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near.
So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.29 In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that his return is very near, right at the door.
Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.30 I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place.
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.31 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.32 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.
Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.33 And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert !
For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.34 “The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.
Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:35 You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.
Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.36 Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.
And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.37 I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”
