Psalm 50
King James BibleNew Living Translation
A Psalm of Asaph. The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.1The LORD, the Mighty One, is God, and he has spoken; he has summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.2From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines in glorious radiance.
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.3Our God approaches, and he is not silent. Fire devours everything in his way, and a great storm rages around him.
He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.4He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people.
Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.5“Bring my faithful people to me— those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.”
And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.6Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. Interlude
Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.7“O my people, listen as I speak. Here are my charges against you, O Israel: I am God, your God!
I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.8I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer.
I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.9But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens.
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.10For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.11I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine.
If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.12If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it.
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?13Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats?
Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:14Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High.
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.15Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”
But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?16But God says to the wicked: “Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant?
Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.17For you refuse my discipline and treat my words like trash.
When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.18When you see thieves, you approve of them, and you spend your time with adulterers.
Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.19Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies.
Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.20You sit around and slander your brother— your own mother’s son.
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.21While you did all this, I remained silent, and you thought I didn’t care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you.
Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.22Repent, all of you who forget me, or I will tear you apart, and no one will help you.
Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.23But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.”
