Psalm 59
NASB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995English Standard Version
For the choir director; set to Al-tashheth. A Mikhtam of David, when Saul sent men and they watched the house in order to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; Set me securely on high away from those who rise up against me.1Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me;
Deliver me from those who do iniquity And save me from men of bloodshed.2deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men.
For behold, they have set an ambush for my life; Fierce men launch an attack against me, Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O LORD,3For behold, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men stir up strife against me. For no transgression or sin of mine, O LORD,
For no guilt of mine, they run and set themselves against me. Arouse Yourself to help me, and see!4for no fault of mine, they run and make ready. Awake, come to meet me, and see!
You, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, Awake to punish all the nations; Do not be gracious to any who are treacherous in iniquity. Selah.5You, LORD God of hosts, are God of Israel. Rouse yourself to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah
They return at evening, they howl like a dog, And go around the city.6Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.
Behold, they belch forth with their mouth; Swords are in their lips, For, they say, "Who hears?"7There they are, bellowing with their mouths with swords in their lips— for “Who,” they think, “will hear us?”
But You, O LORD, laugh at them; You scoff at all the nations.8But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you hold all the nations in derision.
Because of his strength I will watch for You, For God is my stronghold.9O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress.
My God in His lovingkindness will meet me; God will let me look triumphantly upon my foes.10My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
Do not slay them, or my people will forget; Scatter them by Your power, and bring them down, O Lord, our shield.11Kill them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield!
On account of the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, Let them even be caught in their pride, And on account of curses and lies which they utter.12For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter,
Destroy them in wrath, destroy them that they may be no more; That men may know that God rules in Jacob To the ends of the earth. Selah.13consume them in wrath; consume them till they are no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah
They return at evening, they howl like a dog, And go around the city.14Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.
They wander about for food And growl if they are not satisfied.15They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill.
But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress.16But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.
O my strength, I will sing praises to You; For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me lovingkindness.17O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.
