In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: "We have a strong city; He sets up walls and ramparts for security.1On that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city. Salvation is established as walls and ramparts.
"Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter, The one that remains faithful.2Open the gates so a righteous nation can come in-- one that remains faithful.
"The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You.3You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You.
"Trust in the LORD forever, For in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock.4Trust in the LORD forever, because in Yah, the LORD, is an everlasting rock!
"For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the unassailable city; He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust.5For He has humbled those who live in lofty places-- an inaccessible city. He brings it down; He brings it down to the ground; He throws it to the dust.
"The foot will trample it, The feet of the afflicted, the steps of the helpless."6Feet trample it, the feet of the humble, the steps of the poor.
The way of the righteous is smooth; O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level.7The path of the righteous is level; You clear a straight path for the righteous.
Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, O LORD, We have waited for You eagerly; Your name, even Your memory, is the desire of our souls.8Yes, Yahweh, we wait for You in the path of Your judgments. Our desire is for Your name and renown.
At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently; For when the earth experiences Your judgments The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.9I long for You in the night; yes, my spirit within me diligently seeks You, for when Your judgments are in the land, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
Though the wicked is shown favor, He does not learn righteousness; He deals unjustly in the land of uprightness, And does not perceive the majesty of the LORD.10But if the wicked man is shown favor, he does not learn righteousness. In a righteous land he acts unjustly and does not see the majesty of the LORD.
O LORD, Your hand is lifted up yet they do not see it. They see Your zeal for the people and are put to shame; Indeed, fire will devour Your enemies.11 LORD, Your hand is lifted up to take action, but they do not see it. They will see Your zeal for Your people, and they will be put to shame. The fire for Your adversaries will consume them!
LORD, You will establish peace for us, Since You have also performed for us all our works.12 LORD, You will establish peace for us, for You have also done all our work for us.
O LORD our God, other masters besides You have ruled us; But through You alone we confess Your name.13Yahweh our God, lords other than You have ruled over us, but we remember Your name alone.
The dead will not live, the departed spirits will not rise; Therefore You have punished and destroyed them, And You have wiped out all remembrance of them.14The dead do not live; departed spirits do not rise up. Indeed, You have visited and destroyed them; You have wiped out all memory of them.
You have increased the nation, O LORD, You have increased the nation, You are glorified; You have extended all the borders of the land.15You have added to the nation, LORD. You have added to the nation; You are honored. You have expanded all the borders of the land.
O LORD, they sought You in distress; They could only whisper a prayer, Your chastening was upon them.16 LORD, they went to You in their distress; they poured out whispered prayers because Your discipline fell on them.
As the pregnant woman approaches the time to give birth, She writhes and cries out in her labor pains, Thus were we before You, O LORD.17As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pains, so we were before You, LORD.
We were pregnant, we writhed in labor, We gave birth, as it seems, only to wind. We could not accomplish deliverance for the earth, Nor were inhabitants of the world born.18We became pregnant, we writhed in pain; we gave birth to wind. We have won no victories on earth, and the earth's inhabitants have not fallen.
Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.19Your dead will live; their bodies will rise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust! For you will be covered with the morning dew, and the earth will bring out the departed spirits.
Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course.20Go, my people, enter your rooms and close your doors behind you. Hide for a little while until the wrath has passed.
For behold, the LORD is about to come out from His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; And the earth will reveal her bloodshed And will no longer cover her slain.21For look, the LORD is coming from His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth will reveal the blood shed on it and will no longer conceal her slain.
