Isaiah 26
NASB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995New International Version
In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: "We have a strong city; He sets up walls and ramparts for security.1In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts.
"Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter, The one that remains faithful.2Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith.
"The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You.3You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
"Trust in the LORD forever, For in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock.4Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal.
"For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the unassailable city; He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust.5He humbles those who dwell on high, he lays the lofty city low; he levels it to the ground and casts it down to the dust.
"The foot will trample it, The feet of the afflicted, the steps of the helpless."6Feet trample it down-- the feet of the oppressed, the footsteps of the poor.
The way of the righteous is smooth; O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level.7The path of the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth.
Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, O LORD, We have waited for You eagerly; Your name, even Your memory, is the desire of our souls.8Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.
At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently; For when the earth experiences Your judgments The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.9My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.
Though the wicked is shown favor, He does not learn righteousness; He deals unjustly in the land of uprightness, And does not perceive the majesty of the LORD.10But when grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and do not regard the majesty of the LORD.
O LORD, Your hand is lifted up yet they do not see it. They see Your zeal for the people and are put to shame; Indeed, fire will devour Your enemies.11LORD, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame; let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.
LORD, You will establish peace for us, Since You have also performed for us all our works.12LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.
O LORD our God, other masters besides You have ruled us; But through You alone we confess Your name.13LORD our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone do we honor.
The dead will not live, the departed spirits will not rise; Therefore You have punished and destroyed them, And You have wiped out all remembrance of them.14They are now dead, they live no more; their spirits do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin; you wiped out all memory of them.
You have increased the nation, O LORD, You have increased the nation, You are glorified; You have extended all the borders of the land.15You have enlarged the nation, LORD; you have enlarged the nation. You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders of the land.
O LORD, they sought You in distress; They could only whisper a prayer, Your chastening was upon them.16LORD, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer.
As the pregnant woman approaches the time to give birth, She writhes and cries out in her labor pains, Thus were we before You, O LORD.17As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, LORD.
We were pregnant, we writhed in labor, We gave birth, as it seems, only to wind. We could not accomplish deliverance for the earth, Nor were inhabitants of the world born.18We were with child, we writhed in labor, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth, and the people of the world have not come to life.
Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.19But your dead will live, LORD; their bodies will rise-- let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy-- your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.
Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course.20Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by.
For behold, the LORD is about to come out from His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; And the earth will reveal her bloodshed And will no longer cover her slain.21See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed on it; the earth will conceal its slain no longer.
