New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
A Song of Ascents, of David. "Had it not been the LORD who was on our side," Let Israel now say,1A song of ascents, by David. "If the LORD had not been on our side"--let Israel say this!--
"Had it not been the LORD who was on our side When men rose up against us,2if the LORD had not been on our side, when men attacked us,
Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their anger was kindled against us;3they would have swallowed us alive, when their anger raged against us.
Then the waters would have engulfed us, The stream would have swept over our soul;4The water would have overpowered us; the current would have overwhelmed us.
Then the raging waters would have swept over our soul."5The raging water would have overwhelmed us.
Blessed be the LORD, Who has not given us to be torn by their teeth.6The LORD deserves praise, for he did not hand us over as prey to their teeth.
Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper; The snare is broken and we have escaped.7We escaped with our lives, like a bird from a hunter's snare. The snare broke, and we escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.8Our deliverer is the LORD, the Creator of heaven and earth.
