| 1For the choir director; according to the Shoshannim. A Maskil of the sons of Korah. A Song of Love. My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my verses to the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer. | 1For the music director; according to the tune of "Lilies;" by the Korahites, a well-written poem, a love song. My heart is stirred by a beautiful song. I say, "I have composed this special song for the king; my tongue is as skilled as the stylus of an experienced scribe." |
| 2You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever. | 2You are the most handsome of all men! You speak in an impressive and fitting manner! For this reason God grants you continual blessings. |
| 3Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One, In Your splendor and Your majesty! | 3Strap your sword to your thigh, O warrior! Appear in your majestic splendor! |
| 4And in Your majesty ride on victoriously, For the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; Let Your right hand teach You awesome things. | 4Appear in your majesty and be victorious! Ride forth for the sake of what is right, on behalf of justice! Then your right hand will accomplish mighty acts! |
| 5Your arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under You; Your arrows are in the heart of the King's enemies. | 5Your arrows are sharp and penetrate the hearts of the king's enemies. Nations fall at your feet. |
| 6Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom. | 6Your throne, O God, is permanent. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of justice. |
| 7You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of joy above Your fellows. | 7You love justice and hate evil. For this reason God, your God has anointed you with the oil of joy, elevating you above your companions. |
| 8All Your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; Out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made You glad. | 8All your garments are perfumed with myrrh, aloes, and cassia. From the luxurious palaces comes the music of stringed instruments that makes you happy. |
| 9Kings' daughters are among Your noble ladies; At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir. | 9Princesses are among your honored guests, your bride stands at your right hand, wearing jewelry made with gold from Ophir. |
| 10Listen, O daughter, give attention and incline your ear: Forget your people and your father's house; | 10Listen, O princess! Observe and pay attention! Forget your homeland and your family! |
| 11Then the King will desire your beauty. Because He is your Lord, bow down to Him. | 11Then the king will be attracted by your beauty. After all, he is your master! Submit to him! |
| 12The daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; The rich among the people will seek your favor. | 12Rich people from Tyre will seek your favor by bringing a gift. |
| 13The King's daughter is all glorious within; Her clothing is interwoven with gold. | 13The princess looks absolutely magnificent, decked out in pearls and clothed in a brocade trimmed with gold. |
| 14She will be led to the King in embroidered work; The virgins, her companions who follow her, Will be brought to You. | 14In embroidered robes she is escorted to the king. Her attendants, the maidens of honor who follow her, are led before you. |
| 15They will be led forth with gladness and rejoicing; They will enter into the King's palace. | 15They are bubbling with joy as they walk in procession and enter the royal palace. |
| 16In place of your fathers will be your sons; You shall make them princes in all the earth. | 16Your sons will carry on the dynasty of your ancestors; you will make them princes throughout the land. |
| 17I will cause Your name to be remembered in all generations; Therefore the peoples will give You thanks forever and ever. | 17I will proclaim your greatness through the coming years, then the nations will praise you forever. |
