New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
For the choir director; according to Shoshannim. A Psalm of David. Save me, O God, For the waters have threatened my life.1For the music director; according to the tune of "Lilies;" by David. Deliver me, O God, for the water has reached my neck.
I have sunk in deep mire, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.2I sink into the deep mire where there is no solid ground; I am in deep water, and the current overpowers me.
I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; My eyes fail while I wait for my God.3I am exhausted from shouting for help; my throat is sore; my eyes grow tired of looking for my God.
Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; Those who would destroy me are powerful, being wrongfully my enemies; What I did not steal, I then have to restore.4Those who hate me without cause are more numerous than the hairs of my head. Those who want to destroy me, my enemies for no reason, outnumber me. They make me repay what I did not steal!
O God, it is You who knows my folly, And my wrongs are not hidden from You.5O God, you are aware of my foolish sins; my guilt is not hidden from you.
May those who wait for You not be ashamed through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; May those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel,6Let none who rely on you be disgraced because of me, O sovereign LORD and king! Let none who seek you be ashamed because of me, O God of Israel!
Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Dishonor has covered my face.7For I suffer humiliation for your sake and am thoroughly disgraced.
I have become estranged from my brothers And an alien to my mother's sons.8My own brothers treat me like a stranger; they act as if I were a foreigner.
For zeal for Your house has consumed me, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.9Certainly zeal for your house consumes me; I endure the insults of those who insult you.
When I wept in my soul with fasting, It became my reproach.10I weep and refrain from eating food, which causes others to insult me.
When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.11I wear sackcloth and they ridicule me.
Those who sit in the gate talk about me, And I am the song of the drunkards.12Those who sit at the city gate gossip about me; drunkards mock me in their songs.
But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, at an acceptable time; O God, in the greatness of Your lovingkindness, Answer me with Your saving truth.13O LORD, may you hear my prayer and be favorably disposed to me! O God, because of your great loyal love, answer me with your faithful deliverance!
Deliver me from the mire and do not let me sink; May I be delivered from my foes and from the deep waters.14Rescue me from the mud! Don't let me sink! Deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep water!
May the flood of water not overflow me Nor the deep swallow me up, Nor the pit shut its mouth on me.15Don't let the current overpower me! Don't let the deep swallow me up! Don't let the pit devour me!
Answer me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me,16Answer me, O LORD, for your loyal love is good! Because of your great compassion, turn toward me!
And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in distress; answer me quickly.17Do not ignore your servant, for I am in trouble! Answer me right away!
Oh draw near to my soul and redeem it; Ransom me because of my enemies!18Come near me and redeem me! Because of my enemies, rescue me!
You know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; All my adversaries are before You.19You know how I am insulted, humiliated and disgraced; you can see all my enemies.
Reproach has broken my heart and I am so sick. And I looked for sympathy, but there was none, And for comforters, but I found none.20Their insults are painful and make me lose heart; I look for sympathy, but receive none, for comforters, but find none.
They also gave me gall for my food And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.21They put bitter poison into my food, and to quench my thirst they give me vinegar to drink.
May their table before them become a snare; And when they are in peace, may it become a trap.22May their dining table become a trap before them! May it be a snare for that group of friends!
May their eyes grow dim so that they cannot see, And make their loins shake continually.23May their eyes be blinded! Make them shake violently!
Pour out Your indignation on them, And may Your burning anger overtake them.24Pour out your judgment on them! May your raging anger overtake them!
May their camp be desolate; May none dwell in their tents.25May their camp become desolate, their tents uninhabited!
For they have persecuted him whom You Yourself have smitten, And they tell of the pain of those whom You have wounded.26For they harass the one whom you discipline; they spread the news about the suffering of those whom you punish.
Add iniquity to their iniquity, And may they not come into Your righteousness.27Hold them accountable for all their sins! Do not vindicate them!
May they be blotted out of the book of life And may they not be recorded with the righteous.28May their names be deleted from the scroll of the living! Do not let their names be listed with the godly!
But I am afflicted and in pain; May Your salvation, O God, set me securely on high.29I am oppressed and suffering! O God, deliver and protect me!
I will praise the name of God with song And magnify Him with thanksgiving.30I will sing praises to God's name! I will magnify him as I give him thanks!
And it will please the LORD better than an ox Or a young bull with horns and hoofs.31That will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hooves.
The humble have seen it and are glad; You who seek God, let your heart revive.32The oppressed look on--let them rejoice! You who seek God, may you be encouraged!
For the LORD hears the needy And does not despise His who are prisoners.33For the LORD listens to the needy; he does not despise his captive people.
Let heaven and earth praise Him, The seas and everything that moves in them.34Let the heavens and the earth praise him, along with the seas and everything that swims in them!
For God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, That they may dwell there and possess it.35For God will deliver Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah, and his people will again live in them and possess Zion.
The descendants of His servants will inherit it, And those who love His name will dwell in it.36The descendants of his servants will inherit it, and those who are loyal to him will live in it.
