The LORD abhors dishonest scales, but an accurate weight is his delight. 1Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, but an accurate weight is His delight.
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. 2When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the unfaithful destroys them. 3The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the faithless destroys them.
Wealth does not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from mortal danger. 4Riches are worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness brings deliverance from death.
The righteousness of the blameless will make straight their way, but the wicked person will fall by his own wickedness. 5The righteousness of the blameless directs their path, but the wicked fall by their own wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, but the faithless will be captured by their own desires. 6The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the faithless are trapped by their own desires.
When a wicked person dies, his expectation perishes, and the hope of his strength perishes. 7When the wicked man dies, his hope perishes, and the hope of his strength vanishes.
The righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked turns up in his stead. 8The righteous man is delivered from trouble; in his place the wicked man goes in.
With his speech the godless person destroys his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous will be delivered. 9With his mouth the ungodly man destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous are rescued.
When the righteous do well, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there is joy. 10When the righteous thrive, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
A city is exalted by the blessing provided from the upright, but it is destroyed by the counsel of the wicked. 11By the blessing of the upright a city is built up, but by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.
The one who denounces his neighbor lacks wisdom, but the one who has discernment keeps silent. 12Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks judgment, but a man of understanding remains silent.
The one who goes about slandering others reveals secrets, but the one who is trustworthy conceals a matter. 13A gossip reveals a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence.
When there is no guidance a nation falls, but there is success in the abundance of counselors. 14For lack of guidance, a nation falls, but with many counselors comes deliverance.
The one who puts up security for a stranger will surely have trouble, but whoever avoids shaking hands will be secure. 15He who puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but the one who hates indebtedness is secure.
A generous woman gains honor, and ruthless men seize wealth. 16A gracious woman attains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth.
A kind person benefits himself, but a cruel person brings himself trouble. 17A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself.
The wicked person earns deceitful wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a genuine reward. 18The wicked man earns an empty wage, but he who sows righteousness reaps a true reward.
True righteousness leads to life, but the one who pursues evil pursues it to his own death. 19Genuine righteousness leads to life, but the pursuit of evil brings death.
The LORD abhors those who are perverse in heart, but those who are blameless in their ways are his delight. 20The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, but the blameless in their walk are His delight.
Be assured that the evil person will certainly be punished, but the descendants of the righteous will not suffer unjust judgment. 21Be assured that the wicked will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will escape.
Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who rejects discretion. 22Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.
What the righteous desire leads only to good, but what the wicked hope for leads to wrath. 23The desire of the righteous leads only to good, but the hope of the wicked brings wrath.
One person is generous and yet grows more wealthy, but another withholds more than he should and comes to poverty. 24One gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor.
A generous person will be enriched, and the one who provides water for others will himself be satisfied. 25A generous soul will prosper, and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
People will curse the one who withholds grain, but they will praise the one who sells it. 26The people will curse the hoarder of grain, but blessing will crown the one who sells it.
The one who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but the one who searches for evil--it will come to him. 27He who searches out good finds favor, but evil will come to him who seeks it.
The one who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf. 28He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like foliage.
The one who troubles his family will inherit nothing, and the fool will be a servant to the wise person. 29He who brings trouble on his house will inherit the wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
The fruit of the righteous is like a tree producing life, and the one who wins souls is wise. 30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.
If the righteous are recompensed on earth, how much more the wicked sinner! 31If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!
