The LORD abhors dishonest scales, but an accurate weight is his delight. 1Dishonest scales are detestable to the LORD, but an accurate weight is his delight.
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. 2When arrogance comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the unfaithful destroys them. 3The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the treacherous destroys them.
Wealth does not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from mortal danger. 4Wealth is not profitable on a day of wrath, but righteousness rescues from death.
The righteousness of the blameless will make straight their way, but the wicked person will fall by his own wickedness. 5The righteousness of the blameless clears his path, but the wicked person will fall because of his wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, but the faithless will be captured by their own desires. 6The righteousness of the upright rescues them, but the treacherous are trapped by their own desires.
When a wicked person dies, his expectation perishes, and the hope of his strength perishes. 7When the wicked person dies, his expectation comes to nothing, and hope placed in wealth vanishes.
The righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked turns up in his stead. 8The righteous one is rescued from trouble; in his place, the wicked one goes in.
With his speech the godless person destroys his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous will be delivered. 9With his mouth the ungodly destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous are rescued.
When the righteous do well, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there is joy. 10When the righteous thrive, a city rejoices; when the wicked die, there is joyful shouting.
A city is exalted by the blessing provided from the upright, but it is destroyed by the counsel of the wicked. 11A city is built up by the blessing of the upright, but it is torn down by the mouth of the wicked.
The one who denounces his neighbor lacks wisdom, but the one who has discernment keeps silent. 12Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a person with understanding keeps silent.
The one who goes about slandering others reveals secrets, but the one who is trustworthy conceals a matter. 13A gossip goes around revealing a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence.
When there is no guidance a nation falls, but there is success in the abundance of counselors. 14Without guidance, a people will fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance.
The one who puts up security for a stranger will surely have trouble, but whoever avoids shaking hands will be secure. 15If someone puts up security for a stranger, he will suffer for it, but the one who hates such agreements is protected.
A generous woman gains honor, and ruthless men seize wealth. 16A gracious woman gains honor, but violent people gain only riches.
A kind person benefits himself, but a cruel person brings himself trouble. 17A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel person brings ruin on himself.
The wicked person earns deceitful wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a genuine reward. 18The wicked person earns an empty wage, but the one who sows righteousness, a true reward.
True righteousness leads to life, but the one who pursues evil pursues it to his own death. 19Genuine righteousness leads to life, but pursuing evil leads to death.
The LORD abhors those who are perverse in heart, but those who are blameless in their ways are his delight. 20Those with twisted minds are detestable to the LORD, but those with blameless conduct are his delight.
Be assured that the evil person will certainly be punished, but the descendants of the righteous will not suffer unjust judgment. 21Be assured that a wicked person will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will escape.
Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who rejects discretion. 22A beautiful woman who rejects good sense is like a gold ring in a pig's snout.
What the righteous desire leads only to good, but what the wicked hope for leads to wrath. 23The desire of the righteous turns out well, but the hope of the wicked leads to wrath.
One person is generous and yet grows more wealthy, but another withholds more than he should and comes to poverty. 24One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor.
A generous person will be enriched, and the one who provides water for others will himself be satisfied. 25A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water.
People will curse the one who withholds grain, but they will praise the one who sells it. 26People will curse anyone who hoards grain, but a blessing will come to the one who sells it.
The one who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but the one who searches for evil--it will come to him. 27The one who searches for what is good seeks favor, but if someone looks for trouble, it will come to him.
The one who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf. 28Anyone trusting in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage.
The one who troubles his family will inherit nothing, and the fool will be a servant to the wise person. 29The one who brings ruin on his household will inherit the wind, and a fool will be a slave to someone whose heart is wise.
The fruit of the righteous is like a tree producing life, and the one who wins souls is wise. 30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and a wise person captivates people.
If the righteous are recompensed on earth, how much more the wicked sinner! 31If the righteous will be repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and sinful.
