Psalm 50
NET Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
A psalm by Asaph. El, God, the LORD speaks, and summons the earth to come from the east and west. 1The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.
From Zion, the most beautiful of all places, God comes in splendor. 2Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.
Our God approaches and is not silent; consuming fire goes ahead of him and all around him a storm rages. 3Our God comes; he does not keep silence; before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest.
He summons the heavens above, as well as the earth, so that he might judge his people. 4He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
He says: "Assemble my covenant people before me, those who ratified a covenant with me by sacrifice!" 5“Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
The heavens declare his fairness, for God is judge. (Selah) 6The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! Selah
He says: "Listen my people! I am speaking! Listen Israel! I am accusing you! I am God, your God! 7“Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God.
I am not condemning you because of your sacrifices, or because of your burnt sacrifices that you continually offer me. 8Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you; your burnt offerings are continually before me.
I do not need to take a bull from your household or goats from your sheepfolds. 9I will not accept a bull from your house or goats from your folds.
For every wild animal in the forest belongs to me, as well as the cattle that graze on a thousand hills. 10For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.
I keep track of every bird in the hills, and the insects of the field are mine. 11I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine.
Even if I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and all it contains belong to me. 12“If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? 13Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
Present to God a thank-offering! Repay your vows to the sovereign One! 14Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High,
Pray to me when you are in trouble! I will deliver you, and you will honor me!" 15and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
God says this to the evildoer: "How can you declare my commands, and talk about my covenant? 16But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to recite my statutes or take my covenant on your lips?
For you hate instruction and reject my words. 17For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you.
When you see a thief, you join him; you associate with men who are unfaithful to their wives. 18If you see a thief, you are pleased with him, and you keep company with adulterers.
You do damage with words, and use your tongue to deceive. 19“You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit.
You plot against your brother; you slander your own brother. 20You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother’s son.
When you did these things, I was silent, so you thought I was exactly like you. But now I will condemn you and state my case against you! 21These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.
Carefully consider this, you who reject God! Otherwise I will rip you to shreds and no one will be able to rescue you. 22“Mark this, then, you who forget God, lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver!
Whoever presents a thank-offering honors me. To whoever obeys my commands, I will reveal my power to deliver." 23The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!”
