First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanks be offered on behalf of all people,1First of all, then, I urge you to offer to God petitions, prayers, intercessions, and expressions of thanks for all people,
even for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.2for kings, and for everyone who has authority, so that we might lead a quiet and peaceful life with all godliness and dignity.
Such prayer for all is good and welcomed before God our Savior,3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
since he wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.4who wants all people to be saved and to come to know the truth fully.
For there is one God and one intermediary between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, himself human,5There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and human beings—a human, the Messiah Jesus.
who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God's purpose at his appointed time.6He gave himself as a ransom for everyone, the testimony at the proper time.
For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle--I am telling the truth; I am not lying--and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.7For this reason I was appointed to be an announcer, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the gentiles. (I am telling you the truth. I am not lying.)
So I want the men to pray in every place, lifting up holy hands without anger or dispute. 8Therefore, I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without being angry or argumentative.
Likewise the women are to dress in suitable apparel, with modesty and self-control. Their adornment must not be with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive clothing,9Women, for their part, should display their beauty by dressing modestly and decently in appropriate clothes, not with elaborate hairstyles or by wearing gold, pearls, or expensive clothes,
but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God.10but through good actions. This is proper for women who claim to revere God.
A woman must learn quietly with all submissiveness.11Let a woman learn with a quiet spirit, and submissively.
But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man. She must remain quiet.12Moreover, in the area of teaching, I am not allowing a woman to instigate conflict toward a man. Instead, she is to remain calm.
For Adam was formed first and then Eve.13For Adam was formed first, then Eve,
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, because she was fully deceived, fell into transgression.14and it was not Adam who was deceived. It was the woman who was deceived and became disobedient,
But she will be delivered through childbearing, if she continues in faith and love and holiness with self-control. 15even though she will be saved through the birth of the Child, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, along with good judgment.
