From Paul, an apostle (not from men, nor by human agency, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead)1From: Paul—an apostle not sent from men or by a man, but by Jesus the Messiah, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead—
and all the brothers with me, to the churches of Galatia.2and all the brothers who are with me. To: The churches in Galatia.
Grace and peace to you from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ,3May grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be yours!
who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age according to the will of our God and Father,4He gave himself for our sins in order to rescue us from this present evil age according to the will of our God and Father.
to whom be glory forever and ever! Amen. 5To him be the glory forever and ever! Amen.
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are following a different gospel--6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of the Messiah and, instead, are following a different gospel,
not that there really is another gospel, but there are some who are disturbing you and wanting to distort the gospel of Christ.7not that another one really exists. To be sure, there are certain people who are troubling you and want to distort the gospel about the Messiah.
But even if we (or an angel from heaven) should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be condemned to hell!8But even if we or an angel from heaven should proclaim to you a gospel contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let that person be condemned!
As we have said before, and now I say again, if any one is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let him be condemned to hell!9What we have told you in the past I am now telling you again: If anyone proclaims to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let that person be condemned!
Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ! 10Am I now trying to win the approval of people or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be the Messiah's servant.
Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin.11For I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin.
For I did not receive it or learn it from any human source; instead I received it by a revelation of Jesus Christ. 12For I did not receive it from a man, nor was I taught it, but it was revealed to me by Jesus the Messiah.
For you have heard of my former way of life in Judaism, how I was savagely persecuting the church of God and trying to destroy it.13For you have heard about my earlier life in Judaism—how I kept violently persecuting God's church and was trying to destroy it.
I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my nation, and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my ancestors.14I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries, because I was far more zealous for the traditions of my ancestors.
But when the one who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace was pleased15But when God, who set me apart before I was born and who called me by his grace, was pleased
to reveal his Son in me so that I could preach him among the Gentiles, I did not go to ask advice from any human being,16to reveal his Son to me so that I might proclaim him among the gentiles, I did not confer with another human being at any time,
nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before me, but right away I departed to Arabia, and then returned to Damascus. 17nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before me. Instead, I went away to Arabia and then came back to Damascus.
Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and get information from him, and I stayed with him fifteen days.18Then three years later, I went up to Jerusalem to become acquainted with Cephas, and I stayed with him for fifteen days.
But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord's brother.19But I did not see any other apostle except James, the Lord's brother.
I assure you that, before God, I am not lying about what I am writing to you!20(Before God, what I'm writing to you is the truth.)
Afterward I went to the regions of Syria and Cilicia.21Then I went to the regions of Syria and Cilicia.
But I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.22But the churches of the Messiah that are in Judea did not yet know me personally.
They were only hearing, "The one who once persecuted us is now proclaiming the good news of the faith he once tried to destroy."23The only thing they kept hearing was this: "The man who used to persecute us is now proclaiming the faith he once tried to destroy!"
So they glorified God because of me. 24So they kept glorifying God for what had happened to me.
