For the music director; written by the LORD's servant, David; an oracle. An evil man is rebellious to the core. He does not fear God, 1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. 2For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.
The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right. 3The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.
He plans ways to sin while he lies in bed; he is committed to a sinful lifestyle; he does not reject what is evil. 4He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
O LORD, your loyal love reaches to the sky; your faithfulness to the clouds. 5Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.
Your justice is like the highest mountains, your fairness like the deepest sea; you preserve mankind and the animal kingdom. 6Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.
How precious is your loyal love, O God! The human race finds shelter under your wings. 7How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
They are filled with food from your house, and you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies. 8They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
For you are the one who gives and sustains life. 9For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
Extend your loyal love to your faithful followers, and vindicate the morally upright! 10O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
Do not let arrogant men overtake me, or let evil men make me homeless! 11Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
I can see the evildoers! They have fallen! They have been knocked down and are unable to get up! 12There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
