Jonah 2
NET Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew Living Translation
1Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the stomach of the fish1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the fish.
2and said, "I called out to the LORD from my distress, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried out for help, and you heard my prayer. 2He said, “I cried out to the LORD in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the land of the dead, and LORD, you heard me!
3You threw me into the deep waters, into the middle of the sea; the ocean current engulfed me; all the mighty waves you sent swept over me. 3You threw me into the ocean depths, and I sank down to the heart of the sea. The mighty waters engulfed me; I was buried beneath your wild and stormy waves.
4I thought I had been banished from your sight, that I would never again see your holy temple! 4Then I said, ‘O LORD, you have driven me from your presence. Yet I will look once more toward your holy Temple.’
5Water engulfed me up to my neck; the deep ocean surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. 5“I sank beneath the waves, and the waters closed over me. Seaweed wrapped itself around my head.
6I went down to the very bottoms of the mountains; the gates of the netherworld barred me in forever; but you brought me up from the Pit, O LORD, my God. 6I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was imprisoned in the earth, whose gates lock shut forever. But you, O LORD my God, snatched me from the jaws of death!
7When my life was ebbing away, I called out to the LORD, and my prayer came to your holy temple. 7As my life was slipping away, I remembered the LORD. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple.
8Those who worship worthless idols forfeit the mercy that could be theirs. 8Those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God’s mercies.
9But as for me, I promise to offer a sacrifice to you with a public declaration of praise; I will surely do what I have promised. Salvation belongs to the LORD!" 9But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the LORD alone.”
10Then the LORD commanded the fish and it disgorged Jonah on dry land. 10Then the LORD ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach.
