Proverbs 12
NET Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew Living Translation
The one who loves discipline loves knowledge, but the one who hates reproof is stupid. 1To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.
A good person obtains favor from the LORD, but the LORD condemns a person with wicked schemes. 2The LORD approves of those who are good, but he condemns those who plan wickedness.
No one can be established through wickedness, but a righteous root cannot be moved. 3Wickedness never brings stability, but the godly have deep roots.
A noble wife is the crown of her husband, but the wife who acts shamefully is like rottenness in his bones. 4A worthy wife is a crown for her husband, but a disgraceful woman is like cancer in his bones.
The plans of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. 5The plans of the godly are just; the advice of the wicked is treacherous.
The words of the wicked lie in wait to shed innocent blood, but the words of the upright will deliver them. 6The words of the wicked are like a murderous ambush, but the words of the godly save lives.
The wicked are overthrown and perish, but the righteous household will stand. 7The wicked die and disappear, but the family of the godly stands firm.
A person is praised in accordance with his wisdom, but the one who has a twisted mind is despised. 8A sensible person wins admiration, but a warped mind is despised.
Better is a person of humble standing who nevertheless has a servant, than one who pretends to be somebody important yet has no food. 9Better to be an ordinary person with a servant than to be self-important but have no food.
A righteous person cares for the life of his animal, but even the most compassionate acts of the wicked are cruel. 10The godly care for their animals, but the wicked are always cruel.
The one who works his field will have plenty of food, but whoever chases daydreams lacks wisdom. 11A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies has no sense.
The wicked person desires a stronghold, but the righteous root endures. 12Thieves are jealous of each other’s loot, but the godly are well rooted and bear their own fruit.
The evil person is ensnared by the transgression of his speech, but the righteous person escapes out of trouble. 13The wicked are trapped by their own words, but the godly escape such trouble.
A person will be satisfied with good from the fruit of his words, and the work of his hands will be rendered to him. 14Wise words bring many benefits, and hard work brings rewards.
The way of a fool is right in his own opinion, but the one who listens to advice is wise. 15Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.
A fool's annoyance is known at once, but the prudent overlooks an insult. 16A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.
The faithful witness tells what is right, but a false witness speaks deceit. 17An honest witness tells the truth; a false witness tells lies.
Speaking recklessly is like the thrusts of a sword, but the words of the wise bring healing. 18Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.
The one who tells the truth will endure forever, but the one who lies will last only for a moment. 19Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed.
Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy. 20Deceit fills hearts that are plotting evil; joy fills hearts that are planning peace!
The righteous do not encounter any harm, but the wicked are filled with calamity. 21No harm comes to the godly, but the wicked have their fill of trouble.
The LORD abhors a person who lies, but those who deal truthfully are his delight. 22The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth.
The shrewd person conceals knowledge, but foolish people publicize folly. 23The wise don’t make a show of their knowledge, but fools broadcast their foolishness.
The diligent person will rule, but the slothful will become a slave. 24Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave.
Anxiety in a person's heart weighs him down, but an encouraging word brings him joy. 25Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
The righteous person is cautious in his friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. 26The godly give good advice to their friends; the wicked lead them astray.
The lazy person does not roast his prey, but personal possessions are precious to the diligent. 27Lazy people don’t even cook the game they catch, but the diligent make use of everything they find.
In the path of righteousness there is life, but another path leads to death. 28The way of the godly leads to life; that path does not lead to death.
