NET Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew Living Translation
Every wise woman builds her household, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands. 1A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.
The one who walks in his uprightness fears the LORD, but the one who is perverted in his ways despises him. 2Those who follow the right path fear the LORD; those who take the wrong path despise him.
In the speech of a fool is a rod for his back, but the words of the wise protect them. 3A fool’s proud talk becomes a rod that beats him, but the words of the wise keep them safe.
Where there are no oxen, the feeding trough is clean, but an abundant harvest is produced by strong oxen. 4Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.
A truthful witness does not lie, but a false witness breathes out lies. 5An honest witness does not lie; a false witness breathes lies.
The scorner seeks wisdom but finds none, but understanding is easy for a discerning person. 6A mocker seeks wisdom and never finds it, but knowledge comes easily to those with understanding.
Leave the presence of a foolish person, or you will not understand wise counsel. 7Stay away from fools, for you won’t find knowledge on their lips.
The wisdom of the shrewd person is to discern his way, but the folly of fools is deception. 8The prudent understand where they are going, but fools deceive themselves.
Fools mock at reparation, but among the upright there is favor. 9Fools make fun of guilt, but the godly acknowledge it and seek reconciliation.
The heart knows its own bitterness, and with its joy no one else can share. 10Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can fully share its joy.
The household of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish. 11The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the godly will flourish.
There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way that leads to death. 12There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.
Even in laughter the heart may ache, and the end of joy may be grief. 13Laughter can conceal a heavy heart, but when the laughter ends, the grief remains.
The backslider will be paid back from his own ways, but a good person will be rewarded for his. 14Backsliders get what they deserve; good people receive their reward.
A naive person believes everything, but the shrewd person discerns his steps. 15Only simpletons believe everything they’re told! The prudent carefully consider their steps.
A wise person is cautious and turns from evil, but a fool throws off restraint and is overconfident. 16The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence.
A person who has a quick temper does foolish things, and a person with crafty schemes is hated. 17Short-tempered people do foolish things, and schemers are hated.
The naive inherit folly, but the shrewd are crowned with knowledge. 18Simpletons are clothed with foolishness, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
Those who are evil will bow before those who are good, and the wicked will bow at the gates of the righteous. 19Evil people will bow before good people; the wicked will bow at the gates of the godly.
A poor person is disliked even by his neighbors, but those who love the rich are many. 20The poor are despised even by their neighbors, while the rich have many “friends.”
The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever is kind to the needy is blessed. 21It is a sin to belittle one’s neighbor; blessed are those who help the poor.
Do not those who devise evil go astray? But those who plan good exhibit faithful covenant love. 22If you plan to do evil, you will be lost; if you plan to do good, you will receive unfailing love and faithfulness.
In all hard work there is profit, but merely talking about it only brings poverty. 23Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty!
The crown of the wise is their riches, but the folly of fools is folly. 24Wealth is a crown for the wise; the effort of fools yields only foolishness.
A truthful witness rescues lives, but the one who breathes lies brings deception. 25A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is a traitor.
In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence, and it will be a refuge for his children. 26Those who fear the LORD are secure; he will be a refuge for their children.
The fear of the LORD is like a life-giving fountain, to turn people from deadly snares. 27Fear of the LORD is a life-giving fountain; it offers escape from the snares of death.
A king's glory is the abundance of people, but the lack of subjects is the ruin of a ruler. 28A growing population is a king’s glory; a prince without subjects has nothing.
The one who is slow to anger has great understanding, but the one who has a quick temper exalts folly. 29People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.
A tranquil spirit revives the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones. 30A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.
The one who oppresses the poor insults his Creator, but whoever shows favor to the needy honors him. 31Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors him.
The wicked will be thrown down in his trouble, but the righteous have refuge even in the threat of death. 32The wicked are crushed by disaster, but the godly have a refuge when they die.
Wisdom rests in the heart of the discerning; it is known even in the heart of fools. 33Wisdom is enshrined in an understanding heart; wisdom is not found among fools.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. 34Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
The king shows favor to a wise servant, but his wrath falls on one who acts shamefully. 35A king rejoices in wise servants but is angry with those who disgrace him.
