Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:1Simeon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ: To those who have received a faith equal to ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.2May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.3His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.4By these he has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire.
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;5For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge,
and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;6knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness,
and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.7godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.9The person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the cleansing from his past sins.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,10Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election, because if you do these things you will never stumble.
and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.11For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.
So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.12Therefore I will always remind you about these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have.
I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,13I think it is right, as long as I am in this bodily tent, to wake you up with a reminder,
because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.14since I know that I will soon lay aside my tent, as our Lord Jesus Christ has indeed made clear to me.
And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.15And I will also make every effort so that you are able to recall these things at any time after my departure.
For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.16For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."17For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased!"
We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.18We ourselves heard this voice when it came from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain.
We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.19We also have the prophetic word strongly confirmed, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation of things.20Above all, you know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from the prophet's own interpretation,
For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.21because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
