In the course of time, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Metheg Ammah from the control of the Philistines.1After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.
David also defeated the Moabites. He made them lie down on the ground and measured them off with a length of cord. Every two lengths of them were put to death, and the third length was allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.2And he defeated Moab and he measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground. Two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.
Moreover, David defeated Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when he went to restore his monument at the Euphrates River.3David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the river Euphrates.
David captured a thousand of his chariots, seven thousand charioteers and twenty thousand foot soldiers. He hamstrung all but a hundred of the chariot horses.4And David took from him 1,700 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses but left enough for 100 chariots.
When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them.5And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians.
He put garrisons in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to him and brought tribute. The LORD gave David victory wherever he went.6Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.
David took the gold shields that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.7And David took the shields of gold that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
From Tebah and Berothai, towns that belonged to Hadadezer, King David took a great quantity of bronze.8And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took very much bronze.
When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer,9When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer,
he sent his son Joram to King David to greet him and congratulate him on his victory in battle over Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold and of bronze.10Toi sent his son Joram to King David, to ask about his health and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Hadadezer had often been at war with Toi. And Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold, and of bronze.
King David dedicated these articles to the LORD, as he had done with the silver and gold from all the nations he had subdued:11These also King David dedicated to the LORD, together with the silver and gold that he dedicated from all the nations he subdued,
Edom and Moab, the Ammonites and the Philistines, and Amalek. He also dedicated the plunder taken from Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.12from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
And David became famous after he returned from striking down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.13And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
He put garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The LORD gave David victory wherever he went.14Then he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.
David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people.15So David reigned over all Israel. And David administered justice and equity to all his people.
Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was recorder;16Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder,
