Song of Solomon 8
NIV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionInternational Standard Version
If only you were to me like a brother, who was nursed at my mother's breasts! Then, if I found you outside, I would kiss you, and no one would despise me.1If only you were like a brother to me, like one who nursed at my mother's breasts. If I found you outside I would kiss you, and no one would view me with contempt.
I would lead you and bring you to my mother's house-- she who has taught me. I would give you spiced wine to drink, the nectar of my pomegranates.2I would lead you, I would bring you to the house of my mother who used to teach me. I would give you some spiced wine to drink, from the juice of my pomegranates.
His left arm is under my head and his right arm embraces me.3Let his left hand be under my head, and let his right hand embrace me.
Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.4Swear to me, young women of Jerusalem, that you won't awaken or arouse love before its proper time!
Who is this coming up from the wilderness leaning on her beloved? She Under the apple tree I roused you; there your mother conceived you, there she who was in labor gave you birth.5Who is this coming up from the desert, leaning on her beloved? Under the apple tree I awakened you. There your mother had gone into labor with you; there she went into labor and gave birth to you.
Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.6Set me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, passion as intense as Sheol. The flames of love are flames of fire, a blaze that comes from the LORD.
Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one's house for love, it would be utterly scorned.7Mighty bodies of water cannot extinguish love, rivers cannot put it out. If a man were to give all the wealth of his house for love, he would surely be viewed with contempt.
We have a little sister, and her breasts are not yet grown. What shall we do for our sister on the day she is spoken for?8We have a little sister, and she has not yet reached maturity. What will we do for our sister to prepare her for her engagement?
If she is a wall, we will build towers of silver on her. If she is a door, we will enclose her with panels of cedar.9If she's a wall, on her we will build a battlement of silver. If she's a door, we will enclose her with planks of cedar.
I am a wall, and my breasts are like towers. Thus I have become in his eyes like one bringing contentment.10I was a wall and my breasts were like towers. Then I became like one who finds peace in his eyes.
Solomon had a vineyard in Baal Hamon; he let out his vineyard to tenants. Each was to bring for its fruit a thousand shekels of silver.11Solomon has a vineyard in Baal-hamon. He entrusted the vineyard to caretakers— each one is to bring 1,000 pieces of silver in exchange for its fruit.
But my own vineyard is mine to give; the thousand shekels are for you, Solomon, and two hundred are for those who tend its fruit.12My vineyard belongs to me and is at my disposal. The 1,000 are for you, Solomon, and 200 are for those who take care of its fruit.
You who dwell in the gardens with friends in attendance, let me hear your voice!13You who sit in the gardens, companions are listening for your voice, but let me hear it.
Come away, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or like a young stag on the spice-laden mountains.14Come quickly, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices.
