For the director of music. A psalm of David. In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.
Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.2Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.
Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.3For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.
Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.4Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.
Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.5Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.
I hate those who cling to worthless idols; as for me, I trust in the LORD.6I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.
I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.7I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;
You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.8And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.
Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief.9Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.
My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.10For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.
Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me.11I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.
I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.12I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
For I hear many whispering, "Terror on every side!" They conspire against me and plot to take my life.13For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.
But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my God."14But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.
My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me.15My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.16Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.
Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead.17Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.
Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.18Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.19Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.20Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege.21Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.
In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.22For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.
Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full.23O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.24Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.
